WELCOME!
I am so happy you booked a newborn session with me! I want your family to enjoy your time together and feel relaxed to be themselves. You will find more details to prepare for your newborn session below. You can also visit the following blog posts, for tips on choosing what to wear to your newborn session and more on what you can expect from a lifestyle session.
Your
Newborn Session
I am excited to photograph your sweet, newborn baby. A lifestyle newborn session takes place in the comfort of your own home. I will focus on the genuine excitement and real moments of welcoming a new baby into your family. It is a time that goes by in a blur and it’s an honor to document this important time for your family. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.
Your home: Upon arrival, I will tour your home to find areas with the best natural light. This often includes the living room couch, master bed, and nursery. I’m a natural light photographer, so the light will guide where the session will take place. Please keep in mind that bedding in the master bedroom and nursery may appear in images. If you would like a crisp, clean look to your photos please consider a white sheet or blanket or choose neutral colors. I know what it is like to have a newborn. Please don't feel like you have to clean the house before I arrive. We can easily pick up an area that we want to use for photos while I’m there.
Your New Baby: Your newborn is just perfect, so the focus is on their sweet, tiny details, the genuine elation of parents and excitement from siblings. I don't try to make babies sleep or place them in unnatural poses. I think it is unrealistic to have any expectations for the baby, to be alert or asleep. We let the baby guide the session. What is important is that we capture this beautiful time in your life. Your baby will mainly be photographed where they are happiest, in your arms, snuggling with family. I suggest you dress your newborn in a simple onesie that is form fitting with no graphics or words to start. Also, please gather a few favorite swaddle and receiving blankets for baby to be wrapped in. I recommend feeding the baby about fifteen minutes prior to my arrival. We can take a break to feed the baby during the session and I continue to document through feedings. Whether nursing or bottle feeding, fed is best, and it is an important bonding time during these early days. I want you to be 100% at ease and don’t want you to miss any of these important moments with your baby. I will ask for approval before I use any nursing images for social media or my website even with a signed model release.
Siblings: Again, I know what it is like to have a new baby and how big this change is for siblings. I usually try to take sibling and family photos first because the sibling may lose interest. I have no major expectations for the siblings and will never force them into doing anything they aren't comfortable with. It is best to prepare the sibling for the session by telling him or her that a friend is coming to visit and take some photos of your family.
Parents: I am sure you are both thrilled and exhausted, a new baby is hard and wonderful all at the same time. My job is not to make this time in your life look perfect, but to document just how beautiful it is. I want you to be relaxed and at ease when I am photographing your family. Take this time to slow down, and just soak in the beautiful family you have created.
Wardrobe: I recommend neutral colors and comfort. Please avoid neon colors, aqua, and bright pink/yellow/orange. If wearing pink or blue muted tones are best. What is most important is that you are comfortable.
Props: I do not use props during my sessions, however if you have something in mind please let me know.
I can't wait to capture your family! Please let me know if you have any questions. See you soon!
