My family loved our trip to Southwick’s Zoo for their Zoofari!  I’m always on the lookout for fun, safe outdoor activities and loved the idea of a safari style trip to the zoo.  We had to drive a little over an hour from Western Mass., but we thought it was worth it.

Upon arrival we were greeted at the zoofari entrance with a Southwick’s Zoo map and a few coupons.  We had no wait to start our tour.  There were many signs and staff along the route to keep us on track.  The zoo’s layout lends itself to this drive through experience.

Can you see anything from the car? Yes, definitely! We saw flamingos, alligators, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, llamas, camels, iguana, along with many monkeys, chimps and birds.  Keep your eyes peeled, we spotted the giraffes eating lunch around the corner from their enclosure.

With open enclosures there are unobstructed views of the lions and tigers.  Bring some binoculars to search for deer and elk who have freedom to roam in the woods.  There were only a handful of cars when we went, so we could enjoy the zoo at a comfortable pace.  You can stop briefly to watch your favorite animal or take a picture, but must stay in your car.

Overall a fun, safe, new experience at Southwick’s Zoo!

A few tips:

Download the audio before your visit since WiFi is unavailable and cell service is minimal.

Follow GPS to the address given after purchase, not the zoo.

No bathrooms are available, only porta potty’s.

Zoofari is Monday’s and Wednesday’s in October.

Have fun!
