What is a 365 project? - Western Mass Family Photographer
Basically, a 365 project is a photo a day for a year. Sounds easy in theory, but as a photographer I’m aiming to find the beauty in the every day. I want to level up my photography, master my camera, and document my family life in the process. Win, win, win. But with any goal, the key to success is consistency and I struggle with the long term.
With every new resolution, all I can think of is the end goal. Eating healthy, exercising, organizing my house, making time for self care, mindfulness, etc. etc. etc. It all takes maintenance and commitment. I want to, but I want it done yesterday. You can’t skip forward on a 365, the purpose is in the everyday.
I want my photography to capture the personality of every family that I see through my lens. I want to refine my eye to see the moments that are fleeting, the connection that happens naturally between members of a family. Who better to practice on than my own. At the end a I plan to create a 365 album, the story of our 2021, so my children can look back and remember all the fun adventures we have together. Have you ever heard the phrase, “pics or it didn’t happen.” It should be, prints or it didn’t happen. I need to get my images off the cloud and printed, so my kids can actually enjoy them, so I can enjoy them. I swear their generation will lose out on all their memories because they’re all stuck somewhere on the internet, but that’s a post for another day.
I recently upgraded my gear to my dream camera. I am so in love with the quality, the capabilities and the possibilities. It’s extra motivation since I’m obsessed with it.
You can join me with your phone, better yet, if you have a DSLR camera dust it off. Read my ‘photography through a pandemic’ post for more on photography at home. Keep your eyes open. Bring your camera out intentionally. Search for the moments that wont always be there. Find the beauty in your family, everyday.
